SIGNED, Inscribed and dated by Ayn Rand and in MAGNIFICENT CONDITION! First Edition/First Printing of Rand's "non-fiction footnote to Atlas Shrugged" (Introduction). "The basic issue is only: Is man free? In mankind's history, capitalism is the only system that answers: Yes." Perinn A7a.
Inscribed to Nathaniel Branden Institute [NBI] students on the front fly-leaf, this copy contains part of an admission ticket to an NBI lecture adhered to the front pastedown. On the evening before the book was inscribed and dated, Rand delivered "Lecture # 17 -- 'The Esthetics of Literature' -- in the current NBI course on 'Basic Principles of Objectivism' in New York City" (The Objectivist, January, 1967). It is possible that this couple was invited to meet with Rand privately.
Nathaniel Branden introduced newcomers to Ayn Rand's circle by organizing intellectual meetings and seminars focused on her philosophy, often serving as the gatekeeper and primary representative for new followers interested in Objectivism. Meetings Branden arranged often took the form of lengthy philosophical discussions or informal gatherings, sometimes lasting late into the night, and newcomers were expected to adopt a respectful, student-like approach, addressing Rand as the originator of a new philosophical movement. He maintained strict standards for intellectual inquiry and promoted adherence to Objectivist principles, acting as both facilitator for close access to Rand and an enforcer of group orthodoxy. (Branden, 1989)
This actual first printing is far less common than the signed Limited Edition of Capitalism. A stunning copy in a bright, bold jacket, nearly free of any edgewear, with a tiny closed chip on the bottom of the front panel.
You'll not find a finer first printing copy -- signed or not! Book #Bv2356. $2250. We specialize in Rare Ayn Rand, and other legends and landmarks.
