Rand Signed First: The New Left

Rand Signed First: The New Left

SIGNED, Inscribed and dated by Ayn Rand on the title page, this is an extraordinarily rare signed Rand title. In 50+ years of collecting Rand, this is only the second signed copy of The New Left I've ever seen.

Missing from most Rand collections.

The 1960s are usually glorified as a time when America's youth courageously rebelled against the cultural establishment. Protesting everything from Vietnam to industrial capitalism, college students, under the banner of the New Left, often hailed as idealistic revolutionaries, forcibly occupied campus buildings, much like today, and idolized Ho Chi Minh and Fidel Castro.

Rand's prescient analyses of 60's events (e.g., the student rebellion at UC Berkley) and cultural trends (e.g. the ecology movement) were anthologized in these essays. She demonstrated that these "courageous new revolutionaries" had "swallowed every shopworn premise of the liberals of the 1930's, including the catchphrases of altruism, the dedication to 'deprived people,' to such a safely conventional cause as the 'war on poverty'."

It's almost as if she were writing it today.

Published as a paperback original, this title did not appear in hardcover until almost two decades after Rand died, with additional articles by other authors.

Cover has a bluish tint; some scattered underling in red on some pages. Binding is strong.

THIS is really Rare Ayn Rand.
