The Fountainhead

The Fountainhead
"This is the motive and purpose of my writing: the projection of an ideal man. My first serious novel had to present my type of man." After completing WE THE LIVING, armed with the iron determination worthy of her hero, Ayn Rand labored for seven years to create her "ideal man" in hero Howard Roark and in the pages of her masterpiece, THE FOUNTAINHEAD . The story chronicles the victor "in conflict with the world in every possible way and at complete peace with himself" (Branden Who is Ayn Rand?). The novel itself had its own bumpy history, rejected by twelve publishers, slow initial sales, even threatened with extinction before it was made into a movie in 1949. It has remained in print now for over 70 years, and has sold more than 10,000,000 copies.
